HOW WE DO IT
Our plan is a three-phase approach that will take several years to complete and mature.
Phase I - Identify concentrations and kill the algae. Shorelines and coves with algae issues were identified by observations from the lake, and reports from homeowners. Next, GPS coordinates and Google Maps were created to calculate the treatment area and the amount of product needed. There are 6 monthly treatments from April through September. The algaecide is applied by an airboat. The airboat lowers booms into the water and sprays the algae on the bottom of the lake based on the Google Maps coordinates.

Phase II - Restore the lake. Here, our recommendation is to plant native grasses that will repopulate the lake bottom. These grasses will spread, returning the lake to a plant-dominated ecosystem rather than an algae-dominated ecosystem. This will result in cleaner and healthier water for fish, wildlife, and recreational. We continue to work with our Regulators and Consultants to explore this step.

Phase III - Preserve the lake for future generations. We will do this through public education programs, community engagement, and addressing the upstream nutrient flow issues.
These goals of restoring Badin Lake cannot become a reality without donations from individuals like yourself. Please consider making a generous donation. Join us in this journey and together we can make this a success.
